GENRAL ON DETOXIFICATION THEORY AND AYURVEDA

A detoxification is where YOU choose to go through a process to rid your body from TOXINS that are harmful to your bodily functions. While detoxifying, it is important to follow the ayurvedic eating guidelines for reducing ama:

  1. Do not fast or skip meals during any phase of detoxification process.
  2. Eat at the same time every day so your agni can “fire up” for the meal.
  3. Eat your main meal at noon and lighter meals at breakfast and dinner.
  4. Eat while sitting down in a settled atmosphere; pay attention to the food when you eat (no phones, on TV, no reading)
  5. Engage in pleasant conversation with friends or family (no business meeting or emotional discussions)
  6. Eat only when the previous meal has been digested
  7. Sit quietly for a minute at the beginning of the meal, and wait for a couple of minutes after eating before leaving the table. This gives your digestion a settled start.
  8. Eat to only ¾ of your capacity.

Use Spices to Improve Digestion and Metabolism for internal detoxification

Drink warm herbal teas throughout the day. Cinnamon, ginger, fennel, and mint are good options. You should also cook your food with liberal doses of herbs and spices. Use culinary herbs such as basil, rosemary, thyme, and oregano, and spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mint, sage, and parsley in generous amounts.

Whole body detoxification and Ayurveda

Detoxification is about resting, cleaning and nourishing the body from the inside out. By removing and eliminating toxins, then feeding your body with healthy nutrients, detoxifying can help protect you from disease and renew your ability to maintain optimum health.
Detoxification means cleaning the blood. This is done by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. However, when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly filtered and every cell in the body is adversely affected.

What does Ayurveda says about detoxification?

There are three types of toxins that can impact on the physiology: ama, amavisha and garvisha.

Ama is the most common type of toxin, and is the waste product of incomplete digestion which when continues it blocks the shrotas (microcirculatory) and disrupt the flow of nutrients to the area as well as the body’s natural waste removal systems.

Amavisha is more reactive form of ama when ama settles and mixes with the subdoshas, dhatus or the malas.

Garvisha is the third type of toxin, which comes from outside the body. Included are environmental toxins such as chemicals, preservatives, poisons, air and water pollution, spoiled food, genetically engineered foods, synthetics and chemicals in clothing, synthetic drugs, heavy metals such as lead, arsenic and asbestos.

Liver Detox and Ayurveda

It is disturbance of liver function that causes illness. The liver is responsible for many critical functions within the body and should it become diseased or injured, the loss of those functions can cause significant damage to the body. Liver disease is also referred to as hepatic disease. Liver disease is a broad term that covers all the potential problems that cause the liver to fail to perform its designated functions. The liver is the largest solid organ in the body; and is also considered a gland because among its many functions, it makes and secretes bile.

What does Ayurveda says about liver diseases?

It is known as Yakrit in Ayurveda, the liver is regarded as the center of origin of the circulatory system. The liver is governed by the Pitta dosha and therefore an unhealthy liver can result in Pitta-based health problems such as allergies, skin problems, high cholesterol, tiredness and poor digestion. If the imbalance continues for a long time, serious diseases of the liver include hepatitis, cirrhosis, jaundice and cancer could develop.

  1. Skin and eyes that appear yellowish (jaundice)
  2. Swelling in the legs and ankles.
  3. Abdominal, pain and swelling.
  4. Dark urine color.
  5. Pale stool color or bloody or tar-colored stool.

Kidney detox and Ayurveda

It means that the kidneys are damaged and can't filter blood like they should. This damage can cause wastes to build up in the body. It can also cause other problems that can harm your health. For most people, kidney damage occurs slowly over many years, often due to diabetes or high blood pressure.

What does Ayurveda says about kidney diseases?

The kidneys are at the origin of the Mutra vaha srotas: the urinary system. The urethral opening is the opening of this system and the ureters are the route. The urinary tract is connected to Kledaka Kapha, Avalambaka Kapha, Apana Vayu and Ranjaka Pitta. If a person has diabetes mellitus and high blood sugar levels, Kledaka Kapha enables the movement of excessive sugar to the kidneys. The kidneys will excrete this sugar into the urine. The kidneys are responsible for processing excess fluid, waste and minerals from the blood. Excess fluid in the large intestine is absorbed through the mucous membrane and will finally be excreted in the urine. When a Srota is affected, health will be affected as well.

  1. If a person has Vata constitution, the urine will be light or pale yellow.
  2. In a Pitta constitution, the urine will be strong yellow.
  3. A Kapha person will have transparent urine.
  4. If the color is blackish-brown, this indicates a Vata disorder.
  5. If the color is dark yellow, a Pitta disorder.
  6. Difficulty or pain during passing urine
  7. Pain in the back or side Blood & foam in urine
  8. Extreme fatigue, anemia and generalized weakness
